Started off here as an RN who had no home health or hospice experience. They say that they 'train' you. If 'training,' consists of online modules for hours on end or webinars, that is the bulk of your training. When going out in the field, the 'territory,' I was placed in evolved over time. Could drive up to an hour one way to see a patient and one hour back to my home. Was not practical with end of life patients. Shadowing other nurses for weeks, they called this 'training.' One nurse told me she had too large of a caseload to actually train me, so I was just going to just watch her. Bottom line..STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! it isn't just lack of training that was my issue..it was long amounts of time spent in my car traveling throughout the day in various road conditions, frequent calls from the office/emails that needed answers on a daily basis, large caseloads, 'territories' they 'try' to keep you in, which doesn't apply because they will send you everywhere. I was actually transferred to another office closer to me in RI. This office, I encountered bullying/harassment from my immediate managers, having one of these 'managers,' go with me on a supervisory visit, even though he knew I needed additional training and decided to make a surprise visit at my facility and then proceed to insult my skills as a nurse and performance. I repeatedly was talked down to, by some members in management. I was not respected for being an RN and I had people from the office going to some of my facilities to double-check my work. They like to play the blame game on the nurse, when themore.. facility is not happy for one reason or another. They also, take the facilities word over the nurse who is actually working out in the field. They do not trust the nurses judgement. They tried to tell me, that I 'don't take this job seriously.' All I would do was get bombarded all day with many issues, that were not nursing-related and all they did was in turn, tell me that I wasn't seeing enough patients per day. When someone told me that this and I quote, 'wasn't going to fly here.' Very rude some of the office staff. They are not organized, even though they try to be. All they do all day is micromanage you to death. Very exhausting work mentally, between the dying patients and communicating with the office on a daily basis. The wear and tear on my vehicle is ridiculous, I have a crack in my windshield from hitting a pot hole in the road, I have a dent on the side of my car from rushing between patients, so that I would not be late. This job has no work-life balance, it literally never ends. I would still be making calls and working past 5pm, on a mostly daily basis. They want you to 'chart at the bedside.' It is almost impossible to do this, when you have so much communicating to do throughout the day. If you actually do have a patient who is actively dying, good luck finding the time to see that patient, and the rest of your assignment for the day. I found the nursing aspect of the job to be quite sad, but manageable. The case management aspect of this job where I worked briefly in RI, was boarderline impossible to do successfully. This is by far the worst company that I have ever worked for as a nurse, and I have worked for some bad ones. I was asked while working for this company, to do some unethical things, like see patients who declined visits, order supplies that the 'facility requested', even though the facility told me they never requested the items, they over order supplies in this company to make $$MONEY. Everything in this company, you will find is about $$MONEY. It isn't about terminal end of life care, that isn't of their concern. They do not care how good of a healthcare professional you are. It is totally a numbers/productivity game to them and getting positive reviews/comments on their survey. Well, I can't tell you how many times nurses were changed in the 6 months I was there, whether it was at a facility or in homecares. Consistency of care providers, is lacking here. Which, makes this confusing for patients and families. Advocate for your patients, terminal or not! Advocate for yourselves as a nurse! and don't let this company take advantage of you and burn you out! I was never told GOOD JOB here, but let me tell you, working here for the 6 months I did and being thrown practically to the wolves and surviving for the time that I did, guess what Amedisys..I DID A GREAT JOB! and moving on from this company, I have my life back and my sanity and I can provide good nursing care at a company that is deserving of the difference a nurse can make.less
